“What?! You don’t have instagram?”
“No, you do I saw your post on there!”
These are examples of things people say to me fairly often when I say I don’t have Instagram. I’m not sure why I don’t, I think it’s mainly now because of a fear that I’m way behind the trend; then “thinking what’s the point of trying to get on it now?”. However, there is something about it that doesn’t really appeal to me.
I should note that, I’m talking more about a personal Instagram than a profession one. Recently, Instagram has in my opinion become the most dominant social media platform. It’s a great way to share photo’s quickly. My sister loves it, and is constantly taking lovely photo’s of holiday, food, night’s out, e.c.t. That’s great! It’s fantastic that now that young-people have a platform to be creative with photography. However, I can see that it does have a competitive side.
I remember recently seeing a news article about Instagram being the ranked as the worst Social Media platform for self-esteem.
The problem is people start to associate their self-worth with: number of likes and followers. Which, is really sad. Any, part of a person’s creativity should be celebrated, not just their online persona’s creativity. Instagram attracts a young audience too, (teen’s and pre-teens). To me it is worrying that Instagram has become quite competitive for young-people to be on.
Obviously, I am slightly biased as I don’t Instagram, so I don’t see and experience all the amazing stuff. Also, I’m not saying I’d never get Instagram in the future, I’d quite like to maybe get one to promote my blog. I’m not too sure. I feel a bit disillusioned with it tbh.
I’d love to hear other people’s experiences with Instagram good or bad! Hopefully, it will give me a better insight, why not leave a comment?
If you’ve stuck with me this far, thanks for reading!
