So, after blogging seriously for about a month now, I’m starting to wonder where I want to go with this blog. Recently, I’ve been posting quite a lot of fashion and lifestyle posts and I kind of feel that I’ve neglected some of the arty side of my blog (which isn’t great when my blog’s called craft up your life). I think maybe I’ve got a bit lazy, the art and craft posts sometimes take more time to think about and post. I have loads of ideas and completed work on standby, ready to post but I just haven’t got around to doing it.
So how can I motivate myself?
Well , I’ve learnt quite a bit about what motivates behaviour in my studies at uni, so I’m going to try to test out some of the concepts. In a module I took last year called “Learning to be Happy”, which was based on Behaviorist and Positive Psychology theories. I learnt about the importance of setting achievable goals, with measurable progress.
Often, it’s thought that you should plan big and set huge goals for yourself.
However, the theories and research suggest it is actually often much more effective (and motivating) to set small achievable goals. Then break down bigger goals into smaller more manageable goals. It’s also really important to be kind with yourself if you don’t manage to reach a goal. It is okay not to. Maybe you need to change your goal slightly or give yourself more time. Don’t give up just because you didn’t achieve a goal the first time you tried!
So what personal and blogging goals am I setting?
- Practice and get somewhat good at drawing something new, at least once a month.
- Look for summer volunteering/internship opportunities and apply.
- Stick to a meal plan and starting cooking healthier meals on a regular basis.
So, if you look at my first ever post from 2016, (The Start), I make it clear that this blog was made to be mostly a personal record and portfolio of my art projects. So my goal is to try to increase the amount of art stuff I post.
I’ve come up with a little schedule for me to follow to help me have some direction and make sure I’m posting something arty at least once a week.
Monday- Fashion or Lifestyle Post
Wednesday- Art Post
Friday- Psychology or Opinion Post all about something interesting I’ve learnt, read or thinking about.
Weekends- A post on whatever I feel like
I’m hoping this schedule will keep me committed to blogging and art, and will allow me to actually see how well I’m sticking to my goals (which is extremely important when goal setting). I’m not really one for schedules and planning. I usually just like to do what I feel like, at any given time. I really think a schedule might help me stay committed to my blog, so I’m going to try my best to stick to it! It might be hard some weeks with exams and assignments and stuff but I’m going to try my best.
